When you want to glue two things together, CA glue is one of the most common glues. In most cases, it can stick to almost any surface that can be stuck to with glue right away. Glue works best on wood and a few other things. However, it doesn’t stick well to every surface. Cyanoacrylate super glue instructions should be read very carefully before you use them, so make sure you do that. You don’t want to waste your time gluing on things that won’t stick to the strong adhesive. It doesn’t work with plastics that are oily or dirty, liquids or gases, or that have a lot of dust on them.
Delrin Plastics
Delrin plastics are made of acetal plastics that are sold by the brand name Delrin, and they are called that. It is hard to glue together with most glues, ca being one of them. When you put ca on Delrin, it will not make it stick right away. This makes a shell that is easy to remove.
Polypropylene Plastic
Polypropylene, which is used in the automotive and textile industries, doesn’t stick well to CA glue. For the most part, this is because it is semi-crystalline and can withstand a lot of chemicals.
Teflon Plastic
Teflon plastic has a lot of properties that make it hard to glue together with some glues, like CA glue. This plastic is very resistant to chemicals and doesn’t get dirty very quickly.
High-Density Polyethylene Plastic
High-density polyethylene is a very common plastic that is mostly used for packaging. A lot of people use polyethylene to make things like bottle tops, plastic lumber, resistant piping, and geomembranes.
Other than the plastics above, cyanoacrylate super glue does not stick to the following:
- Wet surfaces
- Very smooth surfaces like glass
- Wood, for example, is a porous surface that doesn’t bond well with cyanoacrylate glue right away.Metal surfaces
- It won’t work with most glues until you clean up the surface.
- Use a sandpaper to clean up any dirt on the surface before you use CA glue. This will help the glue stick.
Wrapping It Up
Because Ca adhesive is so strong, it can be used to make things that can’t be wet. Filling in cracks or gouges, adding finer details, hardening cases, and repairing chips are some of the things you can do with it.
Take the time to learn about the surfaces you are gluing together so you don’t end up with a bad surprise. If you use too much glue, it won’t work well. You can cover a square inch of the surface you are gluing together with one drop of CA glue.
Do not forget to wear gloves so that the glue doesn’t get stuck on your fingers, and if you need goggles, wear them to keep the CA fumes out of your eyes. For bonding, the glue should only be used on one side of the surface. The bonding may not happen right away if you put it on both sides.
